Scottish Collie Club Open Show

Rough Collie critique

Thank you to the committee for inviting me to judge their open show and to the exhibitors for supporting me with such a lovely entry on the same day as a breed club championship show. I had some lovely collies to go over and was looking primarily for overall shape and elegance with sound movement. Sadly too many were cow hocked, and others were very short in back and straight in shoulder; this was reflected in their placings.
MPD (3) 1st Paterson & Blaney's Wilmaranna Forever in Blue, 6 month b/m. Stood out in this class. Good clean head with well placed ears and sweet eye giving sweet yet masculine expression. Great length of neck and good shoulder. A bit loose on the move, but he is just a baby and needs time as he will be a big lad. Very well presented and showed well. BPD. 2nd Melvin & Jopson's Leemanway River Phoenix at Nithview, 8 month s/w. Lovely clean head with a sweet eye and well placed ears. Not quite the shape and outline of 1. 3rd Fairgrieve's Muldoanich Highland Laddie
PD (3,1) 1st Steven's Cariadhaf Crazy Dream, 9 month s/w. Good length of back and good short hocks, but would have preferred more neck. He has a good clean head with a flat skull and well placed ears. Showed well but needed a bit more confidence on the move. 2nd Melvin & Jopson's Leemanway River Phoenix at Nithview
JD (5,2) 1st Ashe's Forrestwalk Rocket Man, s/w with a good shape and outline, with a super bend of stifle and good shoulder. Lovely sweet eye and well placed ears, which he used well, and a clean stop giving a sweet yet masculine expression. Moved and showed well. RBD. 2nd Steven's Cariadhaf Crazy Dream, 3rd Johnson's Kelmri Dickinson by Lynmack
YD (2) 1st Babiak's Rosschell Running Free at Egalefalls, b/m who won this class on shape. super length of back with good shoulder and hindquarters. Nice clean head with a flat skull, but would prefer a large eye. Moved well, but was a bit unsettled when standing. 2nd Johnson's Kelmri Dickinson by Lynmack, s/w, lovely eye and ear set but longer in head and shorter in body than I prefer.
MD (1) 1st Babiak's Erjon Ebony Express at Egalefalls, good shape, neck and length of back. Neat ears and sweet eye with a good foreface, but needs to clear in stop. Moved ok.
ND (4) 1st Steven's Cariadhaf Crazy Dream, 2nd Babiak's Camanna Colour Change at Egalefalls, b/m, lovely coloured blue with profuse coat. Good head and shape, and very well handled by his young handler, but was a bit reluctant on the move. 3rd Johnson's Kelmri Dickinson by Lynmack
GD (2,1) 1st McCarte's Lynmack Walk All Over You at Roughrigg, nothing exaggerated about this young s/w. Good make and shape with super neck, shoulder and hindquarters. Good eye, clean wedge head and well filled foreface. Well placed ears, and when he used them this gave him a lovely masculine expression. In his class he was a bit lacking in drive on the move, but in the challenge he really out moved the rest to win BD
PGD (1) 1st Chirray's Kourika Black Jake, tri, good length of back and arch of neck. Clean head with a good stop but slightly rounder in eye for me. Showed and moved ok.
OD (4,1) 1st Fox's Alanita Whats It All About, shaded s/w in super coat, have admired previously. Good shape, shoulders and hindquarters. A reluctant showman, but when he uses his ears he has the most lovely, masculine expression. In his class he moved well with drive, however in the challenge something caught his eye and he didn't want to play anymore. 2nd Blaikie's Kourika Klear Konnection, lovely coloured b/m. Super shape, with well arched neck and well placed shoulder. Clean head with well placed stop with good ear and eye. Finer than 1, and not in full coat. Showed and moved well. 3rd Walker's Starlenga Mungo Jerry
Veteran d/b (2) 1st McCann's Ch Buebezi Ensorcellement at Zolkhan, 8 year old b/m, lovely lady in lovely condition. Great outline with super neck and lovely shoulder and bend of stifle. Nice clean head with ears bang on top which she used non-stop. Showed and moved very well. BVIS. 2nd Paterson & Blaney's Wilmaranna Portrait in Blue, another 8 year old b/m and another with a good shape and outline. Not the quite the show-off of 1, but he has neat ears and a masculine foreface. Moved well.
MPB (3,1) 1st Fox's Erjon Euphoric for Alanita, 7 month tri, what a little poppet. Gleaming black and sparkling white collar. Great outline with a lovely arched neck, well placed shoulder, super bend of stifle and short hocks. Lovely clean head with super ear carriage and a very sweet eye. Good clean wedge , flat skull and well placed stop. Showed like a veteran and moved well. BPIS. 2nd Johnson's Its Magic Geosamka, s/w with sweet eye and expression, nice shoulder with good short hocks. Tends to stand a bit forward which spoils her outline.
PB (5, 3) 1st Mitchell's Caronlea Pixie Chick, s/w with good shape and good shoulder. Very sweet, well placed eye, with flat skull and well set ears. Showed and moved well. 2nd Walker's Camanna Cool Curiosity at Starlenga, tri, good shape with a good shoulder and lovely short hocks. Nice clean head and well placed stop. Showed well, but not happy on the move.
JB (4) 1st Foster's Aldredelie Aphrodite, s/w, lovely make and shape. good length of back and lovely well arched neck. Well placed shoulder and nice short hocks which enabled her to move with drive. Very neat ears placed on top of a clean wedge head which she used well to give a lovely feminine expression. If anything I would prefer a slightly sweeter eye, but in the challenge she stood out to win RBB & RBIS. 2nd Blaikie's Kourika Kandita, b/m I have admired previously. Super shape with a lovely head, well placed eyes and ears giving a lovely expression. Showed well, but sadly wasn't happy on the move. 3rd Melvin & Jopson's Lillyway Lovin' You at Nithview

PGB (2) 1st Brand & Reid's Ronansprey Midnight Kiss, tri, lovely shape with a super, well arched neck and outline. Good shoulder and lovely bend of stifle with short hocks. Clean wedge head with a good flat skull and well placed stop. Good eye and well placed ears which she used well to give a feminine expression. Super mover, covering the ground with ease. In very good, well presented coat. Showed non-stop in her class, then in the challenge stood on a loose lead presenting the elegant picture I was looking for. BB & BIS 2nd Fox's Erjon Edna for Alanita, b/m, lovely colour, well placed ears and clean head. Not quite the shape of 1
LB (6,3) 1st Fox & Moore's Danfrebek Amazing Grace for Alanita, s/w, liked her length of back and reach of neck set into a good shoulder. A little light in ear and slightly rounder in eye but moved very well. Presented well. 2nd Brand & Reid's Coarhabeg Crystal Spirit at Ronansprey, another with a good shape and lovely neck. Very well presented but not as confident on the move as 1. 3rd Ashe's Starlenga Mysterious Girl at Forrestwalk
OB (3) 2 lovely bitches of very different types. 1st Mitchell's Ch Caronlea Celtic by Design for Avonfair JW, very showy tri, super expression with a clean head and sweet eye, clean head and well placed stop. Neat feet and well angulated with a lovely neck. Moved very well, but a bit full of it! 2nd Corney's Yenroc Fleur Di Ecosse, s/w, super shape with a well arched neck.
